Not only this, but our Melbourne and Sydney workshop at the rear of our Melbourne & Sydney Store, provides second to none bike service, helping to keep your bike fit, healthy, and giving you tips on bike maintenance. Read on to become a little more familiar with our bikes and our services, as well as to hopefully answer a few of the questions that you may have.

Bike Designs

How many different styles of bikes does Lekker have?

We have two main styles of bikes: step-through and step-over. First, we have our Jordaan Series, offering both Men and Women a Dutch-style Cruiser Bike with a step-through frame, an upright riding position and an adjustable handlebar. These come in a 3 speed model, a range of different colours, as electric or conventional bike, along with optional upgrades and bike accessories such as baskets, racks, locks, and helmets.

Another step-through bike that we offer is the LEKKER X. This eBike turns your ride into the smoothest while cruising in comfort. It is bold, robust and functional, and available in two different colours.

Similarly, our Outback is an eBike with a step-through frame. It gives you the power to bike from city to gravel roads in the vast landscapes of Australia. The premium eBike perfected its all-terrain approach as comfortably as possible.

Our step-over bikes are part of the Amsterdam Commuter Series, offering more efficient pedalling, with a lower handlebar height for a speedier ride around town. The Amsterdam Series comes in a 3 speed or 8 speed Shimano gearing system. The 8speed models come with a belt drive chain as standard, allowing for less bike maintenance than a regular chain system.

How do the internal gearing systems work?

Each Lekker Bike comes standard with a premium Shimano Internal Gear Hub. Unlike the older-style external gear-shifting systems (derailleur system), the gears are enclosed inside a sealed system within the rear wheel. This makes for less bike maintenance, easy adjustment, less fragile, less and simpler parts and no greasy hands or dirty trousers!

What are the rules and regulations regarding riding a bike in Melbourne?

There are many safety regulations put in place if you are riding a bike in Melbourne & Sydney. This is of course for your own safety, as well as for the safety of other cyclists, pedestrians and motor-vehicle users. Whether you’re cycling on the road or on a bike path, it is helpful to get to know the rules and to obey them for the benefit of yourself and others. A neat outline of all regulations within Victoria, can be found on the VicRoads website.

Personal Customization

Can I upgrade my bike?

Yes, you are welcome to.

What upgrades can I make?

Most things are possible within reason. All Lekker Bikes come with optional bike accessories that are specifically designed for each particular bike, such as front and rear racks, baskets and fenders. However, despite these, you are also welcome to make your own customisations. There are of course a few exceptions to this rule, as many components on our bikes must be fixed for the designs to function as they were intended to, as well as to meet the standards they must adhere to.

Maintenance

Does Lekker offer bike servicing?

Yes. We have a workshop at the rear of our Melbourne and Sydney Shop, where we offer bike servicing not only to customers who purchase Lekker Bikes, but also to anybody interested in getting their bike serviced. The service fee in our Melbourne Shop is $99.

Does my Lekker come with a free service?

Yes, all Lekker Bikes come with a free first service. After this, the standard service fee applies, which is $99 in our Melbourne and Sydney Shop.

How often should I pump my tyres, and to what pressure?

We recommend checking and if needed, pumping your tyres once each week. Tyre pressure is measured using PSI (pounds-per-square-inch). The recommended PSI can be found in the manual for your bike.

Is more maintenance required with the belt drive bikes?

No, using a belt drive rather than a regular chain-drive system will actually require less maintenance, as there is no need for oiling the belt. Also, a belt drive bike makes less noise, has a longer life-span, and does not give you greasy fingers.

How many times a year should my bike be serviced?

We recommend taking your bike to be checked and serviced at least twice a year, to prepare it for the summer or winter season. As mentioned above, with every Lekker Bike purchase, included is a free first service. Regardless of the servicing, you should adhere to basic bike maintenance to give your bike a longer life-span.

Our bikes are also stocked in a number of bicycle shops around Australia where you’re able to test ride them as well. You can book the test ride here.

What is the right size for me?

It can be slightly difficult to determine suitable sizing when purchasing a bike. This is why we have included an approximate height range within each Lekker Bike model on our website. Of course, this can still be difficult to determine which size is best so if you are unsure, please feel free to call our Melbourne Shop on 1300 053 525 or pop into the shop to talk with one of our shop employees. Of course, you’re more than welcome to take a free test-ride for yourself.

What are the delivery options?

The two delivery options we provide are,

  • 85% build – after being carefully checked to meet our quality standard, we ship the box to you 85% built-up; the front wheel, pedals, steering, and seat will require further assembly
  • 98% build – we assembly and adjust the bike here, however we take the pedals off, as well as turn the handlebar stem 90 degrees so that the bike is able to fit into a slightly larger box to be sent to you

What is the cost of delivery?

Costs of delivery of course will differ depending on where you are located. It will also differ depending on whether you choose to have your bike built up to 85%, or 98%. The pricing for delivery to major metro areas within Australia starts at AUD 25.00 (higher delivery prices apply to rural areas outside of these cities). More accurate pricing can also be found online within our online checkout system.

What are delivery times, or when can I expect my bike to arrive?

Our delivery times usually take up to 9-11 business days on average. When your order leaves our warehouse, you’ll receive an email with a tracking number – you can use this to follow your order’s journey to your door or to one of our brand stores. We work with international shipping partners to get your order to you as soon as possible, but delivery times vary depending on where you order from.

eBike

How does the Lekker eBike work?

The Lekker eBike is just like our regular bicycles but it has three extra components that make it much more powerful than a conventional bike. Any of our electric bikes, whether it is the Jordaan+, the Amsterdam+, the Amsterdam GT, the LEKKER X, or the Outback, have a rechargeable battery that powers the motor and electric sensors which detects when you start pedalling. Also, all of our bike accessories can be added to the eBike.

What is the top speed of the eBike?

The top speed of the Lekker eBike is 25km/h.

Does the eBike charge whilst I ride it?

No, they do not recharge whilst riding. Moving the pedals does not charge them. It requires charging of the battery to operate as intended.

How long must I charge the eBike battery?

Full charge of the Lekker eBike battery will take approximately 3.5 – 4.5 hours. We recommend fully charging your eBike battery before first use so that it works as intended.

How long can you ride with one charge of the battery?

Generally, between 50km and 100km per full battery charge. Of course, this can vary and greatly depends on things such as rider weight, the level of pedal assistance (between 1 and 5), the gradient of the terrain, as well as the power output of the rider.

Can the battery be removed?

Yes, the battery can be safely removed to allow for easier charging. For example, if you would like to store your eBike at home in the garage. To do so, simply insert and turn the key when in the key-slot and are able to slide out the battery from under the rear rack.
